One motto we follow at Monroe Elementary is to “be kind to everyone”. I will expect my students to follow this each and everyday. We will be spending the next 180 school days together and in order for everyone to be successful and receive the education that they deserve, we must make it a priority to come to school each day ready to learn. Our behavior and how we treat one another will play an important role in our accomplishments.
Below you will see my discipline plan for the 2018-2019 school year. You will hear a lot about responsibility this year as your student transitions from the primary grades into the intermediate level. I am very interested in helping all of my students succeed and reach their goals. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns that you may have. The direct number to my voicemail at Monroe Elementary is 539-8101 ext. 2215, you can reach me by e-mail at [email protected], or you may utilize your child’s planner and drop me a note whenever you have a question or concern. I look forward to an exciting and educational year.
Students are expected to follow all school rules including cafeteria and playground rules as written in the student conduct. The following rules are to be followed in my classroom.
Be Respectful!
Listen politely, speak respectfully, use kind words, ask permission to use things, keep hands/feet to yourself, & use a quiet voice inside at all times!
Be Responsible!
Follow directions, make good choices, & accept consequences.
Be a Problem Solver!
Use kind words to solve problems, use materials appropriately, & get help if needed from an adult.
Be Prepared!
Bring your Take-home Folder and planner every day, sharpen pencils in the morning, turn in your homework/papers on time, & have an organized desk.
The following consequences will be used when students break any of the above written rules. We will be using a signing notebook system to keep track of discipline issues in the classroom.
1st offense: verbal warning
2nd offense: warning - sign the discipline notebook one time
3rd offense: loss of recess - sign the discipline notebook a second time
***If the notebook is signed for two negative behaviors, student may take a “time out” in Mrs. Eschmeyer’s class until he/she is ready to return to the classroom. Parents will be notified if this occurs.***
4th offense: detention/call home – sign the discipline notebook a third time
I will keep in contact with you concerning problems with your child’s classroom behavior or effort towards classwork and homework. Please be aware that Office Referrals will be used for extreme cases of rules broken from the student code of conduct.
I will be using “Happy Hornets” and a monthly “mystery prize” for positive reinforcement for those students with exceptionally good behavior. Students who follow all rules and therefore do not turn any cards will receive a “ticket” for that day. The students will place their number on the ticket and place it in the ticket jar. Each month the teacher will choose tickets out of the jar for small prizes. One lucky student will receive the mystery prize of the month.
Consistent good behavior will also contribute to class rewards as well. The class as a whole will earn gems for good behavior in the classroom, in the hallways, in the cafeteria, during unified arts, etc. When all gems are earned, the class will receive a free choice Friday which may include a pajama day, extra recess, technology afternoon, etc.
